About Us

about

A little about us, In 2002 Bob Lodge and Penny Hall, both Medical Specialists, moved to the Byron Hinterland region of far north NSW from inner city Melbourne. Purchasing Paddy Melon Ponds farm, a beautiful 120acre property, was the beginning of the realization of a dream to find life –work balance and embark on a long held dream to become quality primary producers.

Charolais cattle were already grazing on the paddocks and appeared to thrive with minimum intervention. Despite initial interest in growing coffee, research and a little experience lead us to pursuing the beef cattle, adding the production of trees for landscape gardening.

Our first planting in 2009, of 1100 trees, included 8 different types of Australian native suited to the subtropical regions of north eastern NSW and south eastern Qld.

Citrus fruit, from trees already established as well as newly planted are yielding quality mandarins , oranges, lemons and grapefruit seasonly.

Appointment of our skilled and enthusiastic farm manager, David Eastwell, in 2013, resulted in a step up in pasture improvement, beef cattle breeding with improved nutrition and subsequent meat quality, and a smooth transition to excavation of landscape trees for sale both locally and interstate.

Following the philosophy preached by Joel Salatin, of sustainable profitable small acre farming, high quality product and low food miles, Bob and Penny are intent on continuing to expand and develop the farm and its produce to meet the evergrowing demand for locally grown, quality beef, landscape trees and citrus fruit.
